Durga Pooja at Ulsoor
As a part of our 50th photowalk of the year, an enthusiastic bunch of photographers greeted us at the Ulsoor Lake entrance, the meeting point for the Sunday evening. Beginning with a round of introduction from those assembled, and a short brief on the highlights of the scheduled event, we first attempted a round of Nature Photography near the lake itself, after which we proceeded towards the R.B.A.N.M.S College grounds, the Puja venue.
The Durga Puja festivities at Ulsoor is an initiative by the Bengalee Association in Bangalore, with continuous ongoing events from 19th – 24th October. Sunday being the Maha Saptami day, photographers swarmed through the crowd to capture the aarati at the main pandal, and moved to the section showcasing the Chhau Dance, a tribal martial performance art form popular in Odisha, Jharkhand and West Bengal. This was followed by Bioscope, presenting a line-up of dance performances and a fashion show to conclude the day’s cultural events.
Devotees thronging the pandals in their lush traditional attire and tantalizing food made for other subjects. Overall, what we got to capture was the colourful festive atmosphere, unfolding an interesting link between varied communities and an amalgamation of our rich cultural heritage and diversity.
With more photowalks lined up this week covering other festival days at different centers in the city, this was a fun session for some exciting clicking, promising much more for all our zealous photographers in the upcoming events.
